Torbay - Chief Executive
Application Deadline : 08/09/08

Fixed term contract to April 2010
Salary: £50k

Closing date for Applications: Monday, September 8, 2008.

Imagine life in Torbay on the English Riviera - cream teas, yachts in the harbours, Victorian splendour and Agatha Christie?
Just take a look beyond the palm trees and deckchairs and Torbay faces real challenges.
There are genuine economic issues to tackle, with the retail sector under pressure from new ‘destination shopping’ developments in Exeter and Plymouth.
So that’s where you come in. We are looking for a senior figure to transform the trading environment in the three town centres of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.
The first stage of that journey will be to lead Torquay to a successful BID ballot in early 2010. You’ll need to build support among traders and develop a business plan with them to take ‘the jewel of the English Riviera’ to new heights.
You will need to be able to advise and influence at the highest level within all stakeholder groups – local government, MPs, the police and the private sector.
You will also have to show some entrepreneurial flair and develop revenue streams to support the aims of the BID. Experience of service-provision contract negotiations may well prove to be useful.
But you will also need to demonstrate an ability at an operational level – your ability to think and act strategically is great but you are also someone who doesn’t mind rolling his or her sleeves up and getting things done.
All that will demand experience at a senior management level within the private sector and, ideally, experience of town centre management and a successful BID ballot process.
You won’t be alone. Torbay has priority status for Regional Development Agency funding and a major regeneration vision is being developed by Torbay’s directly-elected mayor.
It won’t be easy, but you have the chance to make a difference and help make Torbay great again.

For further information including a Job Description and Person Specification or an informal discussion please contact Alan Denby, Torbay Development Agency, 5 Vaughan Parade, Torquay TQ2 5JG tel: 01803 296296 fax: 01803 214885

Staines Partnership Manager (Town Centre Manager)
    Application Deadline : 22/05/06

Reviewed Salary - £35,000 + Performance Related Bonus

Staines is a vibrant Thames-side town that has enjoyed major investment in recent years, with more exciting projects in the pipeline. It can now boast a town centre that is the envy of others in the region, with two shopping
centres, the Elmsleigh and Two Rivers, linked by a pedestrianised High Street, that together offer a wide choice of shops, leisure and entertainment facilities – all within a safe, high quality, accessible environment.

The Staines Partnership is a successful and dynamic local public/private partnership that is now ready to embark on the next important stage of its development. The partnership’s vision for the town centre recognises that there is still a great deal of work to do to achieve Staines’ full potential.

Do you have what it takes to make this vision a reality?

We’re now looking for a dynamic, marketing-led individual to build upon Staines’ success to date. You will also possess the entrepreneurial flair and ability to develop innovative ideas for creating income streams and an expanded membership base. A target-driven individual you will relish not just achieving targets but exceeding them. Successful partnership working will be key, so excellent communication, influencing and networking skills are a must.

An experienced individual with a strong but personable leadership style, you will be just as motivated in operating at a strategic level as being but in the town centre making a difference.

Initially the position will be offered on a two-year contract but it is anticipated that the success of the appointed Manager will ensure the position continues beyond the end of that period.

If you would like an informal discuss about this position, please contact: Peter Miles on 01784 457 487

To apply for the position please send your CV with a covering letter telling us why you should be appointed to:

Julia Kerins, The Staines Partnership, Two Rivers Management Office, Mustard Mill Road, Staines TW18 4WB, or e-mail to Julia.kerins@arlington.co.uk

Revised closing date: Monday 22nd May 2006

Successful applications will be expected to attend an interview on Tuesday 30th May 2006
